In this post, I’m sharing hidden gems from San Felipe, Zambales—a charming, friendly town I know inside out from my early years here. San Felipe offers more than just beautiful beaches and vibrant surfing culture; it’s a treasure trove of natural beauty, rich history, lively culture, and delicious local food. Let me help you discover its unique charm!
San Felipe Beach in Zambales is just a 2-5 minute walk from Ugalde's Coastal Cabins and Homes, offering a tranquil retreat in Zambales. Start your day early to secure your perfect spot on the beach, whether you want to swim, surf, sunbathe, or watch the sunrise/sunset.
For some adventure, rent an ATV to explore the scenic coastline. Or ride a thrilling banana boat, play a game of beach volleyball, hunt for seashells, or unwind with a good book.
As the sun sets, relax under the stars. Whether looking for a nearby beach or a peaceful resort, San Felipe Beach is the ideal destination for a memorable and serene escape.
San Felipe’s coastline features surf spots suitable for all skill levels, perfect for both experienced surfers and beginners. Liwliwa Beach, a little more than a kilometer away from Ugalde's Coastal Cabins, is a lively hub where surfers come to ride the waves, share stories, and soak up the sun. It’s a great place to hit the surf with options for every skill level.
Make sure to try surfing before you leave San Felipe! Visit Liwliwa Beach, where kiosks offer surfing lessons and board rentals. Just walk up to them, and you’ll be catching waves in no time. Surf instructor rates are around P750, while board rentals cost approximately P500.
If I'm not at the beach, I'd spend a day (or two) in this area. Lubong-Nangoloan Falls, also known as Anghalo Falls, is less than 10 minutes by car from Ugalde's Coastal Cabins. You can drive there and park for a small fee. The falls are accessible by walking or taking a traditional carabao ride. If you're looking for a peaceful and scenic spot, this stunning waterfall is ideal for a visit.
Enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool, clear waters of the falls, or simply lounge by the shore, enjoying the natural beauty surrounding you. Pack a picnic and savor a leisurely lunch with friends and family. The soothing sound of cascading water and the vibrant greenery create a perfect setting for relaxation.
Fees (as of December 2024)
Car Park: ₱50
Carabao Ride (Optional): ₱150 one-way, sits up to 5 people. The walk from the main road to the entrance is easy, but riding a carabao is a fun experience—HIGHLY recommended if it’s your first time! 😉
Entrance Fee: ₱50 per adult
Cottage/Picnic Table (Optional): ₱350–₱1000. Local tip: No need for a table! Bring a picnic mat and pick a good spot anywhere.
When you visit the San Felipe Public Market, take your time exploring the vibrant stalls filled with fresh produce and delicious local dishes. Treat yourself to Filipino favorites like puto, bibingka, kakanin, and turon, or savor well-loved noodle dishes like pancit and palabok.
One dish you can't miss is BAGNET—a crispy, golden-brown pork belly that's incredibly flavorful and addictively crunchy. Whether eaten on its own or paired with rice, it’s a must-try! Just a friendly warning: it's often called a “heart attack on a plate”—and for good reason!
Since San Felipe is a coastal town, the market also boasts a variety of freshly caught seafood, often sold on the same day. Many of the meats and vegetables are locally sourced, giving you an authentic taste of the region’s culinary heritage. Best of all, the San Felipe Public Market is just 1 km away!
